In the Safavid era, especially during the reign of Shah Tahmasp, Falnamehs were used as a tool for prophecy and inspiration from the future and played an important role in the connection of religion, politics, and popular culture. These images not only conveyed religious messages, but also helped to predict the future and understand fate. Dabeh-al-Ard, as one of the signs of the Last Judgment in Islam, is depicted in a cryptic and complex manner in the early Safavid era paintings. The aim of this research is to identify the concepts and symbols present in the Dabeh-al-Ard images in the Safavid Falnamehs and the question is raised: "What concepts do the Dabeh-al-Ard images in the Safavid Falnameh Manuscripts reflect?" Accordingly, the authors are attempting to examine four images of Dābbat al-Arḍ from the illustrated fortune-telling books of Shah Tahmasp Safavi's era in the light of qualitative studies through documentary studies. The research method is also based on the analysis of the visual and textual content of these works, which focuses in particular on the relationship between religious and mythological symbols in the religiosity of the visual culture of the Safavid era. The findings show that in these works, Dābbat al-Arḍ is depicted as a being with human and animal characteristics and symbols such as the staff of Moses and the ring of Solomon, which are attributed to this being based on Shiite narrations. In other words, the image of Dābbat al-Arḍ in these works is a reflection of the combination of Shiite and Sunni beliefs, especially during the era of the growth and power of Akhbarism in contrast to Shiite rationalism. These symbols, along with other visual features in the images, which are mostly influenced by Sunni narrations, present an image of the religious and social threats and concerns of that time.
