A comparative study of Qashqai and Shahsavan horse covers

Abstract

This article has a less theoretical aspect, so it has been written with a field view and relying on searching on reputable sites and galleries. horse cover, is one of the most practical nomadic weavings that has not been researched yet. horses cover athough they have been practical, but patterning and creating a variety of geometric and abstract patterns derived from nature and the environment around the weaver and dye them using natural dyes, reveals the aesthetic dimension of these weaves more than the past. the qashqai and Shahsavan tribes are two tribes that weave designed of horse covers, have a high reputation. in this article, it is tried to be paid introduce, analyze and document the technological and aesthetic dimensions with a comparative approach and selection of significant examples horse covers these nomads. some of the findings are as follows: weaving techniques in qashqai horse of covers are more diverse and more than shahsavan horse of covers.in weaving qashqai horse covers is used to the following techniques: pichbafi(souzani), ghalibori(torkamman naghsh), jajimbafi(oyyibafi) and combination of these techniques. but in weaving shahsavan horse covers is used to pichbafi of technique which is called Sumak and in some cases, kilim weaving. there is also more variety in design in shahsavan horse covers. in the use of colors, weavers of the two tribes have often used the same colors. while shahsavan horse covers is large and rectangular, but qashqai horse covers are small and usually square. this article is a qualitative and basic research and the research method is descriptive-analytical. the method of data collection is simultaneously library and search of reputable sites and galleries.
